Quick answer: Indian students applying for a 2026 UK Student Visa need a CAS from a licensed UK university, INR equivalent of GBP 13,347 (London) or GBP 10,224 (outside London) for 9 months plus first-year tuition (minus deposit) held for 28 consecutive days, a TB Test from an IOM-approved clinic in India and biometrics at any VFS Global centre in India. Standard processing 15 working days; Priority (5 days) and Super-Priority (24 hours) are widely available.

    1. Documents Checklist (2026)

  1. Valid Indian passport (6+ months, 2 blank pages)
  2. CAS letter (CAS reference number printed)
  3. Unconditional offer letter
  4. 10th, 12th and Bachelor's transcripts + degree certificate
  5. IELTS / PTE / Duolingo / TOEFL score (if required)
  6. Tuition deposit receipt
  7. Bank statement (28-day clean balance, dated within 31 days)
  8. TB Test certificate (IOM-approved clinic)
  9. Sponsor letter, ITR, salary slips (if sponsored)
  10. PAN card (sponsor), Aadhaar of applicant
  11. Notarised affidavit of support if sponsor is not direct parent
  12. 35x45 mm photograph (white background)
  13. 2. Financial Requirement in INR (2026)

UKVI requires funds in GBP but you must show INR equivalent at current rate (~1 GBP = INR 105 in 2026):

    Course locationGBP/monthx 9 monthsINR equivalent

    |----------------|-----------|-----------|----------------|

    LondonGBP 1,483GBP 13,347INR 14 lakhOutside LondonGBP 1,136GBP 10,224INR 10.74 lakh

Plus full first-year tuition minus deposit paid.

    Example: University of Manchester MSc (GBP 33,000 tuition, GBP 5,000 deposit) = GBP 10,224 + GBP 28,000 = GBP 38,224 (~INR 40.1 lakh) maintained for 28 days.

Add a 10% INR buffer for currency movement.

    3. Accepted Bank Accounts

  14. Applicant's own account (any scheduled commercial bank: SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, Yes, PNB, BoB, etc.)
  15. Parent's account (with applicant's birth certificate + consent letter)
  16. Joint account with parent
  17. Education loan letter from a recognised bank (Government - SBI, BoB, BoI, Canara; private - HDFC Credila, Avanse, ICICI, Axis, Auxilo; NBFC - Incred, MPower, Prodigy) - sanction letter is treated as proof on its own, no 28-day required.
  18. Not accepted: uncle, aunt, cousin, friend, company account, fixed deposits unless explicitly liquid within 28 days.

    4. Education Loan Route (Most Common for Indians)

Education loan sanction letters from approved banks/NBFCs are accepted as standalone proof of funds - the 28-day rule does not apply to loan funds. Sanction letter must:

  19. Be on bank letterhead, signed
  20. Specify your name, course, university, total amount (in INR or GBP)
  21. Cover tuition + living costs
  22. Be dated within 6 months of visa submission
  23. 5. TB Test (Mandatory)

India is on the TB list. Test only at IOM-approved clinics in: Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Pune, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Cochin, Lucknow, Goa.

Cost: INR 3,000-3,500 (2026). Result in 3-5 working days. Certificate valid 6 months.

    6. Application Steps

  24. Pay GBP 524 visa fee + IHS GBP 776/year (online, gov.uk).
  25. Complete online form (apply.gov.uk).
  26. Book biometrics at VFS Global (15+ centres across India).
  27. Submit documents.
  28. Decision: standard 15 working days, priority 5 days (+ ~INR 50,000), super-priority 24 hours (~INR 1,00,000).
  29. 7. 2026 Refusal Trends for Indian Applicants

  30. Loan sanction letter wording incorrect (does not specify the exact university/course).
  31. 28-day rule break (parent moved FD into savings within the window).
  32. Sponsor income mismatch with ITR.
  33. Course choice not credible (engineer applying for MA Fashion).
  34. TB test missing or expired.
  35. Document name mismatches (Aadhaar vs passport vs degree certificate).
  36. Weak Statement of Purpose / credibility answers.
  37. 8. Family / Dependants

Indian Master's (taught) and Bachelor's students cannot bring dependants under 2024 rules - no spouse, no children. Research Master's and PhD students still can.

    9. Sample Timeline for September 2026 Intake

  38. 1-31 May 2026: receive CAS, pay deposit
  39. 1-7 June: arrange loan / 28-day funds
  40. 8-12 June: TB test
  41. 13 June: submit visa
  42. 14-15 June: VFS biometrics
  43. 16-22 June (priority) or by 5 July (standard): decision
  44. Mid-August: fly out
  45. Bottom Line

The UK Student Visa is one of the most predictable visas for Indian students in 2026 when funds and documentation are clean. Most rejected files would have been approved with a corrected loan sanction letter or 28-day-clean account.
