Study in the UK from India in 2026

India is now the largest sender country to UK universities. Over 170,000 Indian students were enrolled in UK universities in the latest HESA cycle, surpassing China for the first time. Here is a 2026 roadmap built specifically for Indian applicants.

Why Indian students still pick the UK in 2026

  1. 3-year Bachelor's, 1-year Master's — finish 1-2 years faster than the US, save INR 15-30 lakh
  2. 2-year Graduate Route (PSW) for courses starting before 1 January 2027
  3. Direct Year 1 entry from CBSE / ISC / many State Boards — no Foundation Year needed
  4. Strong Indian community at Warwick, Manchester, Leeds, Cranfield, Coventry, Hertfordshire, Birmingham
  5. GBP 1 = INR 105 (May 2026) makes the UK roughly INR 6-8 lakh cheaper per year than comparable US offers
  6. Entry routes from Indian qualifications

From Class XII (CBSE / ISC / IB)

  7. Direct Year 1 at most universities with 75-85 percent for Russell Group, 60-70 percent for modern universities
  8. Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, UCL typically want 95 percent+ in best 4 subjects with strong subject match
  9. Strong State Boards (Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu) accepted on equal terms by most universities
  10. From Class XII (other State Boards)

  11. Often need 80-85 percent vs 75-80 percent for CBSE/ISC for the same offer
  12. A small number of universities require a Foundation Year from non-CBSE/ISC boards — our eligibility tool flags these automatically
  13. From Indian Bachelor's degrees (3 or 4-year)

  14. 3-year Bachelor's is now accepted for direct Master's entry at most UK universities including Russell Group, with a typical minimum of 60 percent or CGPA 6.0/10
  15. 4-year Engineering / B.Tech: accepted everywhere with CGPA 6.0-7.5
  16. Top universities (LSE, Imperial, UCL) prefer 65-70 percent or CGPA 7.0+
  17. From integrated / dual degree

  18. Treated as equivalent to UK Bachelor's; entry to specialist Master's is straightforward
  19. English language requirements in 2026
