How Much Bank Balance Is Required for a UK Student Visa in 2026?

Quick answer: For a UK Student Visa in 2026 you must show your first-year tuition fee (minus any deposit already paid) plus GBP 1,529 per month for up to 9 months in London (max GBP 13,761) or GBP 1,171 per month for up to 9 months outside London (max GBP 10,539). The 28-Day Rule Explained

This is the single biggest reason for UK Student Visa refusal.

  8. The required total must be in the account for 28 consecutive days
  9. On any one day if the balance dips below the required amount, the 28-day clock restarts
  10. The closing balance on your statement must be dated within 31 days of your visa submission date
  11. A statement dated 32+ days before submission is automatically invalid
  12. Accepted Accounts and Documents

    Accepted:

  13. Your own personal current or savings account
  14. Your parents' or legal guardians' account (with signed sponsor letter + your birth certificate)
  15. An official Government student loan letter (e.g. HBL, Allied Bank, SLC)
  16. An official university or government scholarship letter
  17. Not accepted:

  18. Cash in hand, cryptocurrency, mutual funds, shares
  19. Pension funds, ISAs, fixed deposits not freely accessible
  20. Business or company accounts
  21. Credit-card limits, overdraft facilities
  22. Accounts of siblings, uncles, aunts, friends, in-laws
  23. Country-Specific Notes

  24. Pakistan: HBL, UBL, Meezan and Bank Alfalah statements are widely accepted. Loan letters from HBL Roshan Digital and Allied Bank Student Finance are pre-approved.
  25. India: State Bank of India, HDFC, ICICI and Axis statements work. Education loans from SBI, HDFC Credila, Avanse and Auxilo are accepted with sanction letter + disbursement schedule.
  26. Nigeria: Domiciliary (USD/GBP) accounts at GTBank, Zenith, Access and UBA are accepted. Naira accounts are converted at the day's official rate.
  27. Bangladesh: Statements from BRAC, Dutch-Bangla, Eastern Bank and City Bank are accepted; loan letters must come from a scheduled commercial bank.
  28. How to Avoid a Funds Refusal

  29. Calculate from the CAS, not your own estimate - use the exact tuition balance shown
  30. Top up early - get the full amount in 35 days before your earliest possible submission date
  31. Do not move money between accounts during the 28-day window
  32. Get a bank stamp on every page of the statement
  33. Translate non-English statements with a certified translator
  34. Submit within 31 days of the closing balance date
