    Chinese students often face additional documentation requirements compared to other countries. Use this checklist to avoid delays.

    For University Application

    Academic Documents

  1. ✅ Senior high school graduation certificate (高中毕业证)
  2. ✅ Senior high school transcript (高中成绩单)
  3. ✅ Gaokao result certificate (if applying with Gaokao)
  4. ✅ Bachelor's degree certificate (for Master's applicants)
  5. ✅ Bachelor's transcript with grading scale
  6. ✅ Notarised English translations of all above (from a Public Notary Office / 公证处)
  7. Supporting Documents

  8. ✅ Personal Statement (typically 4,000 characters via UCAS for UG)
  9. ✅ 2 academic reference letters (preferably one from your subject teacher)
  10. ✅ CV (for Master's and PhD)
  11. ✅ English test scores (IELTS / Duolingo / PTE / TOEFL)
  12. ✅ Passport copy
  13. For PG Applicants

  14. ✅ Research proposal (PhD only)
  15. ✅ Writing sample (some humanities programmes)
  16. ✅ Portfolio (Art / Architecture / Design)
  17. For UK Visa Application

  18. ✅ CAS reference number from your university
  19. ✅ Valid passport with blank page
  20. ✅ TB test certificate from an IOM-approved clinic in China (valid 6 months)
  21. ✅ Financial evidence (28-day rule applies)
  22. ✅ Tuition fee and maintenance funds proof
  23. ✅ ATAS certificate (only for certain STEM PG courses)
  24. ✅ IHS payment receipt
  25. If Funded

  26. ✅ Sponsor letter (CSC, employer, government scholarship)
  27. If Under 18

  28. ✅ Parental consent letter (notarised)
  29. ✅ Birth certificate (notarised English translation)
  30. ✅ Proof of guardianship arrangement in the UK
  31. Notarisation Process in China

  32. Visit your local Public Notary Office (公证处)
  33. Bring originals + Chinese copies + your passport
  34. Pay the notary fee (~¥150-300 per document)
  35. Notary issues a bilingual notarial certificate with your original document attached
  36. Some universities additionally require CDGDC verification for degree certificates

  38. Apply for notarised translations early — they take 5-10 working days
  39. Use CSSD (留服中心) to verify foreign degree intentions before returning
  40. Keep digital scans of every document in cloud storage
  41. TB test must be at an approved clinic — your local hospital does NOT count
