Quick answer: Students from Nigeria can start a UK degree in November 2026 or January 2027 instead of waiting for September 2027. The November 2026 intake is open now at a small group of universities (including the University of Wolverhampton for MSc Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Business Analytics) and closes as soon as CAS places run out. The January 2027 intake is far wider, with 40+ UK universities including Queen's University Belfast, the University of Birmingham and Bangor University. Apply by late October 2026 for January to protect your visa timeline.

Why students from Nigeria choose a November or January start

Waiting for September 2027 costs you a full year of earnings and a year of the Graduate Route clock. A November 2026 or January 2027 start gives you:

  1. The same degree certificate as September entrants, taught by the same academics.
  2. The same 2 year Graduate Route post study work visa (3 years after a PhD).
  3. Smaller cohorts and faster offer decisions, often 5 to 15 working days.
  4. More Student Visa appointment slots at VFS centres in Lagos and Abuja, because November to January is outside the peak summer rush.
  5. November 2026 intake: what is still open

The November intake is a short window. Confirmed options include:

    UniversityCoursesStatus
University of WolverhamptonMSc Artificial Intelligence, MSc Data Science, MSc Business AnalyticsOpen, closes at CAS cut-offAbertay UniversitySelected postgraduate coursesOpenSelected London based campusesBusiness, computing and health management MastersRolling

If you are applying from Nigeria for November, you need your transcripts, degree certificate, passport and English evidence ready today. The whole cycle (application, offer, deposit, CAS, visa) has to compress into a few weeks.

January 2027 intake: the wider option

January 2027 is the realistic target for most students from Nigeria. Universities with a confirmed January 2027 start include:

  6. Queen's University Belfast - Russell Group, LLM Law, nine Queen's Business School Masters including the MBA, MSc Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and healthcare practice Masters.
  7. University of Birmingham - foundation pathways, online Masters and Dubai campus routes.
  8. Bangor University - full undergraduate and Masters list, tuition from GBP 19,000, scholarships up to GBP 18,000.
  9. Coventry, Ulster (London and Birmingham), Northumbria London, Teesside London, Bolton, BPP, Sunderland London, Greenwich and Middlesex.
  10. Entry requirements for students from Nigeria

Academic: a Nigerian Bachelor degree with Second Class Lower (2:2) or above is accepted for most Masters courses, with Second Class Upper (2:1) needed for competitive business and computing routes. WAEC or NECO with five credits including English and Maths supports undergraduate and foundation entry. HND holders can apply for top-up or Masters routes with relevant experience.

English: Many UK universities waive IELTS for Nigerian applicants because English is the medium of instruction, using a WAEC English credit (C6 or above) or a university MOI letter. Where a test is required it is normally IELTS 6.0 to 6.5.

Money and Student Visa evidence from Nigeria

You must show your outstanding tuition for year one plus maintenance of GBP 1,483 per month in London or GBP 1,136 per month outside London, for up to 9 months. That is GBP 13,347 in London or GBP 10,224 elsewhere.

You must show funds in a Nigerian bank in Naira or a domiciliary account, held for 28 consecutive days, with a sponsor letter and evidence of the sponsor's income. Currency conversion is judged at the exchange rate on the day of application.

Funds must be held for 28 consecutive days, and the closing balance must be dated no more than 31 days before you submit the visa application.

    Country specific advice

Plan for the FX and transfer timeline. Deposit payments from Nigeria can take longer, so pay the tuition deposit early to protect your CAS date.

Common mistakes students from Nigeria make

  11. Applying too late. The January intake is not a fallback, it is a hard deadline driven by CAS cut-offs.
  12. Showing funds for fewer than 28 days. One day short means refusal.
  13. Ignoring the credibility interview. Be able to explain why this course, why this university and why the UK.
  14. Choosing a course with no January start. Nursing, medicine, dentistry and most placement engineering degrees run September only.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Can students from Nigeria still apply for the November 2026 UK intake?+

Yes, but only at a small group of universities and only while CAS places last. The University of Wolverhampton is open for MSc Artificial Intelligence, MSc Data Science and MSc Business Analytics, and a number of London based campuses run rolling November starts. Students from Nigeria should apply immediately with all documents ready.

When is the January 2027 UK intake deadline for Nigeria students?+

Most universities close January 2027 applications between mid November and early December 2026, with deposits and conditions cleared by around 20 November so the CAS can be issued in late November or early December. Applying between August and late October 2026 is safest.

What are the entry requirements for UK universities from Nigeria?+

A Nigerian Bachelor degree with Second Class Lower (2:2) or above is accepted for most Masters courses, with Second Class Upper (2:1) needed for competitive business and computing routes. WAEC or NECO with five credits including English and Maths supports undergraduate and foundation entry. HND holders can apply for top-up or Masters routes with relevant experience.

Do I need IELTS to study in the UK from Nigeria?+

Many UK universities waive IELTS for Nigerian applicants because English is the medium of instruction, using a WAEC English credit (C6 or above) or a university MOI letter. Where a test is required it is normally IELTS 6.0 to 6.5.

How much money do I need to show for a UK Student Visa from Nigeria?+

You need your outstanding first year tuition plus GBP 1,483 per month in London or GBP 1,136 per month outside London for up to 9 months, which is GBP 13,347 or GBP 10,224. The funds must be held for 28 consecutive days. You must show funds in a Nigerian bank in Naira or a domiciliary account, held for 28 consecutive days, with a sponsor letter and evidence of the sponsor's income. Currency conversion is judged at the exchange rate on the day of application.

Is a November or January intake degree the same as a September one?+

Yes. The modules, teaching staff, degree certificate and the 2 year Graduate Route post study work visa are identical. The only difference is the month you start and graduate.
