Quick answer: A 2:2 Bachelor degree is enough for the January 2027 intake at the University of Huddersfield, Bangor University and the University of Wolverhampton across most taught Masters, and at Queen's University Belfast on selected routes where a 2:2 is accepted with relevant experience. A third class or low GPA can still work where you have two or more years of relevant work experience, a strong personal statement and a professional reference. January cohorts are smaller and admissions teams are typically more flexible than in the September rush, which is exactly why a borderline profile should target January.

What a 2:2 equals in your country

    CountryRough 2:2 equivalent
India50 to 55 percent, or CGPA 5.5 to 6.0 out of 10Pakistan55 to 60 percent, or CGPA 2.5 out of 4.0NigeriaSecond Class Lower, CGPA 2.4 to 2.9 out of 5.0BangladeshCGPA 2.5 to 2.8 out of 4.0SingaporeGPA 3.0 out of 5.0China65 to 70 percent depending on the institution tier

Universities judge these against their own country lists, so a percentage that looks low can still meet the bar. Always have your profile checked rather than self rejecting.

What about a third class degree

A third class is not an automatic no. Realistic routes are:

  1. A pre-Masters or graduate diploma, then progression to the Masters
  2. A Masters with a work experience waiver, usually two to three years in a directly relevant role
  3. A professional qualification such as ACCA papers, CIMA or a recognised IT certification, used as evidence of level
  4. How to strengthen a borderline January application

  5. Lead with recent, relevant work. Two years in a relevant role often outweighs half a grade band.
  6. Explain the grade honestly. One paragraph, no excuses, then what you did afterwards. Admissions teams respond well to a clear account of illness, family circumstances or a weak first year followed by strong final year marks.
  7. Show your final year average separately. Many applicants have a 2:1 final year inside a 2:2 overall, and universities will look at it if you point to it.
  8. Get an academic and a professional reference, not two of the same.
  9. Apply early in the window. Flexibility shrinks as CAS numbers run down. A 2:2 file submitted in September gets far more consideration than the same file in late November.
  10. Apply to two or three of the list, not one. Parallel applications cost nothing and protect your January start.
  11. The deadline you cannot miss

Apply by late October 2026, clear conditions by around 10 November, pay the deposit by around 20 November, CAS in late November or early December, visa submitted by mid December. A borderline application takes longer to assess, so build in two extra weeks and submit by early October if you can.

    Money you must show

Outside London, GBP 1,136 per month for up to 9 months, which is GBP 10,224, held for 28 consecutive days, plus outstanding tuition. All four non London universities above sit at that lower rate.
