How Many UCAS Points Is an A at A-Level?
Quick answer
An A at A-level is worth 48 UCAS Tariff points. An A* is 56, a B is 40, a C is 32, a D is 24 and an E is 16. An A at AS-level is worth 20 points, and an A in the EPQ is worth 24.
A-level grade to UCAS points
| Qualification combination | UCAS Tariff points |
|---|---|
| A-level A* | 56 points |
| A-level A | 48 points |
| A-level B | 40 points |
| A-level C | 32 points |
| A-level D | 24 points |
| A-level E | 16 points |
| AS-level A | 20 points |
| EPQ A* | 28 points |
| EPQ A | 24 points |
The A-level tariff is linear above grade E: every grade step is worth 8 points, from E at 16 up to A at 48, then A* jumps by 8 again to 56.
AS-levels are worth roughly 40 percent of a full A-level, so an A at AS is 20 points rather than 48. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is worth half an A-level, so an A is 24 points.
Three A grades gives you 144 points (Russell Group level), three Bs gives 120, and three Cs gives 96. Add an EPQ at A and you gain another 24 points on top.
