    7/26/2026 6 min read

    Quick answer

An HND (Higher National Diploma) is a Level 4/5 qualification you can start in London at 21 or over with no A-Levels and no degree. It takes two years, is fully covered by a Student Finance England tuition fee loan of up to GBP 6,935 a year at a designated provider, and you can top it up to a full honours degree with one extra year of study.

Why mature students pick an HND

    • No A-Levels, BTEC or UCAS points needed to be considered
    • Admission based on work experience, a personal statement and an interview
    • Two or three teaching days a week so you can keep working
    • Tuition fees paid by student finance, plus a maintenance loan for living costs
    • Progression: HND then a one-year Level 6 top-up gives you a full BA or BSc

    Where you can study
