Abertay University January 2027 Intake: Programmes, 75% Requirement & English Test Changes

Abertay University in Dundee, Scotland has confirmed its open programme list for the January 2027 intake, alongside two policy changes that genuinely affect eligibility - not just paperwork.

    What's changing for January 2027

Abertay's admissions update for this intake flags three things clearly:

    1. Minimum academic requirement for Master's programmes is now 75%.
    2. MOI (Medium of Instruction) letters are no longer accepted as proof of English language proficiency. Applicants now need to meet Abertay's approved English language test requirements directly.
    3. CAS interviews are on hold. Abertay has asked partners to pause scheduling CAS interviews while it updates its interview process — worth checking current status before assuming an interview is required.

The MOI change is the one most likely to catch applicants off guard. MOI letters — a letter from a previous institution confirming your degree was taught in English — have historically been accepted by many UK universities as an alternative to IELTS, PTE or similar tests. If you were planning to rely on an MOI letter for your Abertay application, that route is no longer available, and you will need an accepted English test score instead.

    Why the 75% requirement matters

A flat 75% minimum for Master's entry is a meaningfully high bar compared to many UK universities, which often set Master's entry around 55-65% depending on the course and country of prior study. If your undergraduate marks sit below that line, it is worth contacting Abertay directly before applying, since grading scales vary significantly between countries and a percentage-based cutoff does not always translate cleanly.

    What to check before applying

    • Confirm which English tests Abertay currently accepts — since MOI is no longer valid, check the university's published list of approved tests and minimum scores for your specific course.
    • Check current CAS interview status — Abertay's own guidance says this process is being updated, so confirm whether an interview is required before you schedule anything or tell a student to expect one.
    • Verify your percentage converts to 75% under Abertay's country-specific grading equivalency, rather than assuming your local grading scale maps directly.
